£67.8m Gigabit Voucher Scheme at Immediate Risk of Closing

12th December 2019

The latest Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) update in November indicated that around 77% of the available £67.8m LFFN Government Voucher fund were already committed. DCMS have now advised that there are projects submitted which, if approved, would consume the remaining funding available.

The Government Gigabit Voucher Scheme contributes £2,500 towards the cost of installing full fibre broadband connections to premises across the UK. Since launch, the scheme has been highly popular with businesses and individuals in upgrading to next gen fibre technology.

DCMS have suggested that no further vouchers will be issued when the LFFN voucher fund is fully committed.

What to do if you still want to apply for the Government Voucher Scheme

If you’re ready to switch to a full fibre connection and can meet the Government requirements, there is still time to register your interest and apply for the £2,500 Gigabit Voucher Scheme. Speak to a DCMS registered supplier such as Giganet and the provider will guide you through the next steps.

Please note, new voucher applications that are submitted will be considered at risk and as a result may get declined. If this is the case, individuals can choose to cancel their full fibre installation, risk-free.

What to do if you’ve already submitted for your £2,500 voucher

If you have already submitted for the Gigabit Voucher Scheme, please ensure that you click the link in the post-installation email to validate a claimed connection within 28 days. DCMS reserve the right to cancel the associated voucher and are now starting to do so for any unclaimed connections.

Customers will be emailed by DCMS post-install and they must take action once the email is received.

What savings you can get with the Government Voucher

With the Gigabit Voucher, you can get benefit from considerable savings per month. Here are a few of the packages with the voucher pricing:

  • CityFibre UltraBEAM FTTP 1Gb/s: £249/month with £0 install (after using £2,500 voucher) – usual price is £299/month
  • Giganet Local UltraBEAM+ FTTP 500Mb/s: £249/month with £0 install (after using £2,500 voucher) – usual price is £299/month

This is the last chance to take advantage of the Government Scheme. If you’ve already applied for the voucher, please ensure you act to the emails and correspondence from DCMS.

If you’re unsure about what this means for your connection, please get in touch.
